SEMINOLE – Oakhurst United Methodist Church will celebrate 40 years of ministry Sunday, Sept. 19, with both praise and worship and traditional worship services led by Timothy W. Whitaker, resident Bishop of the Florida Annual Conference of the UMC and John M. Bartha, senior pastor.
The praise and worship service will be at 8:15 a.m. and the traditional services at 9:25 and 11 in the sanctuary. An anniversary luncheon with special presentations will be at noon in the Wesley Foundry.
The church was founded as Oakhurst Methodist Church in March 1964 and had its first worship service in the library of Seminole High School. In September 1965 ground was broken for the first church building at its present four-acre property purchased in 1960 at the corner of Park Boulevard and 134th Street. The church expanded several times with the additions of a sanctuary, office and classrooms including a multi-purpose building that opened in 2001.
