SEMINOLE – The following programs and events are set in October at Seminole Community Library:
Teen programs
• Library Youth Advisory Board Meeting, grades 6-12, Mondays, Oct. 8 and 22, 7 p.m. LYAB members get to meet new people, help choose materials for the YA collection and earn volunteer credits.
• Tween Thursday, grades 5-7, Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. Play board games and Wii.
• Two Towers Chess Club, all ages, Mondays, Oct. 8 and 22, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. All skill levels welcome.
• Seminole Chess Club, all ages, Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For novice, intermediate and advanced players. Basic instruction not available at the meetings. Players should already know the moves, rules and etiquette of chess.
• Pause for Poetry, all ages, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. Enjoy a supportive atmosphere where lovers of poetry share their own poems and/or read favorite selections.
Adult programs
• Based on the Book Cinema, Sunday, Oct. 28, 2 p.m. Free popcorn and soda courtesy of the Friends of the Seminole Library.
• Cinema at Sundown, Thursdays, Oct. 11 and Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m.
• Classic Movie Matinee, Fridays, 1 p.m. Free popcorn and soda courtesy of the Friends of the Seminole Library.
• Journaling with Linda, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. Call 394-6923 to register.
• Pause for Poetry, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m.
• Socrates Café, Monday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m.
• Seminole Chess Club, Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., for intermediate and advanced players only.
• Sunday Musicale, Sunday, Oct. 14, 3 p.m. Boris Lebedinsky, classical and popular guitarist.
• Thrilling Tales, Monday, Oct. 4. Enjoy hearing entertaining stories read aloud by a skilled reader. This month’s selection is “The Signal-Man” by Charles Dickens. For more information, call Michael Bryan, 394-6923.

Children’s programs
• Family Movie Matinee, Saturdays, 2 p.m. Free popcorn and soda provided by The Friends of the Library. Call the Youth Services Department at 394-6913 for movie titles and additional information.
• LEGOs @ the Library, all ages, Wednesdays, Oct. 3 and 17, 3:30 p.m. Open to all elementary aged children, with a play area provided for younger siblings. LEGOs will be supplied.
• The Stone Soup Group/Coupon Exchange, adults, Wednesdays, Oct. 3 and 17, 3:30 p.m. Bring your extra coupons, low/no cost activities, recipes, how-to solutions or other special offers to our exchange program.

• Night Owls, elementary age and family, Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. A program of books, games, science projects, crafts and more. Geared toward elementary ages, but all ages are welcome.
• Wiggle, Giggle and Sing, ages 5 and under, Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. Shake a parachute, toss a bean bag, and other “wiggly, giggly” musical activities.
• Toddler Story Time, ages 18-36 months, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. Twenty minutes of short stories, songs, and movement activities based on a weekly theme.
• Preschool Story Time, ages 3-5, Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. Thirty minutes of stories, songs, and movement activities based on a weekly theme.
• Baby Steps Story Time, ages newborn to 18 months, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. A lap sit program featuring finger plays, music, nursery rhymes and a playtime.
• “A Walk in the Park” with Professor Maura Scanlon, toddler and preschool ages, Thursday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m. Join an SPC biology professor on a 30-minute nature walk on the grounds of the library/college campus to see local wildlife. Space is limited. Twenty tickets will be available at the Youth Services desk 30 minutes before the walk begins.
• Homeschool Nature Club, ages PK to 5, Thursday, Oct. 4, 2 p.m. Join area homeschooling families for nature story time, discussion and activities in the library, followed by outside observation, journaling and drawing of local wildlife on the library/college campus grounds.
• Halloween Howl, all ages, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Join library staff for a “spooky” afternoon of games, crafts and treats. Be sure to wear your Halloween costume.
