City gives final approval to Citrus Country lease
Article published on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007
SEMINOLE – The City Council voted unanimously Oct. 9 to give final approval to a proposed development agreement that will allow a citrus products retailer to open at 5800 Seminole Blvd.

The decision opened the door for Citrus Country Groves to begin operation in the building formerly occupied by Orange Blossom Groves and owned by Allison Repetto.

“We look forward to restoring some of the historic flavor that’s been there,” said Harold Sample of Dade City-based Citrus Country Groves. “We plan a grand opening in three weeks (Oct. 30).”

Under terms of the agreement, Repetto will lease 2 acres of the 8-acre tract to Citrus Country Groves over a three-year term for retail sales of citrus products and citrus wines.

As part of the development agreement, the city is issuing a variance to the distance requirements of the city’s alcoholic beverage code, which will allow Citrus Country Groves to offer free wine tastings to the public.

Under terms of the development agreement, Repetto is required to paint the exterior of the building, block the middle driveway cut to Seminole Boulevard, update landscaping on the property in accordance with previously approved plans with the city in 1983 and 1993, remove a pole sign on the east side of the property fronting Seminole Boulevard or relocate it 10 feet back from the street and restripe the parking lot.

The property has been used as a citrus grove, packing facility and retail sales for 60 years.

Orange Blossom Groves closed to the public in 2005.

In other action, the council:

• Approved a request to spend up to $8,000 in transportation impact fee funds to relocate about 500 feet of PVC fencing to allow for the construction of a sidewalk along the south side of 70th Avenue from Seminole Boulevard east to the Bayou Grande project.

• Approved a one-year extension of the city’s commitment to the Business Assistance Partnership Agreement with the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and Pinellas County. The city’s share in fiscal year 2008 is $21,000.

• Approved a one-day permit for beer sales at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce golf tournament Nov. 1 at Seminole Lake Country Club.
