SEMINOLE – Jimmy Johnson announced Nov. 23 his intention to seek another three-year term as mayor of Seminole.
Johnson, 66, is unopposed at this point but qualification for the March election doesn’t begin until Dec. 1.
Candidates have two weeks to pay the filing fee or garner the necessary number of signatures to get on the ballot.
Johnson underwent a single lung transplant in March 2008 and colonoscopy later in the same year.
“My health is excellent,” he said. “I still have to guard against rejection (of the new lung). But other than that, I’m fine.”
Johnson has served on the City Council since 2003 and was appointed interim mayor on Nov. 7, 2006, when Dottie Reeder resigned to run for the Florida House of Representatives. He was elected to a three-year term as mayor in March 2007.
Johnson has been executive director of the chamber since 2001 and has lived in Seminole since 1980.
