Rep. Leslie Waters recognized for putting children first
Article published on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005
SEMINOLE – House Speaker Pro Tempore Leslie Waters recently was recognized for her dedication, compassion and support demonstrated to our community’s abused and neglected children as well as to the foster and adoptive families who provide them with nurturing homes.

Pinellas Community Based Care Stakeholders Group and Safe Children Coalition presented the award to Rep. Waters in recognition of the “Teddy Bear Boogie and Diaper Drop” at her legislative office in August that resulted in hundreds of diapers, baby wipes, stuffed animals and various baby care items being given to Safe Children Coalition for use in foster homes and for children who are abandoned.

Waters also worked to secure state money that was owed to dozens of Pinellas County child welfare organizations. In addition, she has sponsored and passed legislation to provide funding for prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome, including a statewide shaken baby billboard campaign.

“Supporting children’s issues, and those who care for our community’s most vulnerable, is certainly a high legislative priority while I am in Tallahassee and in the district,” said Waters.
