SEMINOLE – At its Nov. 26 meeting, the Seminole City Council voted unanimously to approve the construction of a new Gordon Food Service store in Seminole.
The 10,000-square-foot GFS will be built on approximately 1.81 acres at 5000 Park St., on the northwest corner of Park Street and Sheen Drive and just north of the Kohl’s shopping center. This will be the third GFS in Pinellas County. The other two stores are in Clearwater and St.
Petersburg. GFS provides food service products to restaurants, education, healthcare and similar institutions, though it is also open to the public.
In other action items, the council:
• approved the redevelopment of the existing Wendy’s fast-food restaurant at 10751 Park Blvd. The existing store will be demolished and a new one, consistent with the company’s new brand, will be constructed.
• agreed to allow Santore, Inc. to provide the fireworks display at the 2014 Pow Wow Festival for $6,000. Santore, under its current names or other names, has provided fireworks for the festival for nearly 19 years, Edmunds said. “We’ve had great success working with this company,” he said.
• voted to amend the Municipal Firefighters’ Pension Trust Fund to provide an option for the fire chief to opt out of the pension plan if they choose. This option will assist in the recruitment of a fire chief, said Edmunds, and also will make the fund consistent with state law.
