Hurricane kit
The following items should be included in the hurricane kit.

- Flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs - candles are not recommended because of potential fire danger.

- Portable battery-operated radio with extra batteries.

- NOAA weather radio, optional.

- First aid kit and manual, including antibiotic ointment, gauze bandages, adhesive tape, sterile pads, band-aids, ointments for burns and cuts, hydrogen peroxide, scissors, tweezers, latex gloves, non-prescription medicines, such as aspirin and antacids, sunscreen, snake bit kit.

- Emergency food and water - at minimum a three-day supply, two weeks is recommended.

- Sugar, salt and pepper.

- Aluminum foil, plastic wrap, resealable plastic bags.

- Special dietary foods.

- Pet food and water.

- Baby items, including food, diapers and formula.

- Manual can opener and other cooking and kitchen utensils.

- Paper plates, plastic eating utensils, napkins and paper towels.

- All purpose knife.

- Matches and waterproof container.

- Fresh bottle of bleach.

- Garbage bags.

- Essential medicines, eye glasses, hearing aids.

- Personal hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, brush, towel and washrag, toilet paper, moist towelettes, deodorant, razor and shaving cream, lip balm, insect repellant, feminine supplies.

- Clothing, including long pants, sturdy shoes and rain gear.

- Bedding, including sleeping bag or blanket.

- Tool kit, including shut-off wrench, pliers, screwdriver, small hammer, duct tape and scissors.

- Tarpaulins and plastic sheeting.

- 100 feet of rope or heavy cord.

- Shovel.

- Work gloves.

- Whistle.

- Needle and thread.

- Fire extinguisher.

- Cash or Traveler's checks for two to three weeks of expenses.

- Important papers, such as insurance policies, birth certificates, wills, deeds, passports and photocopies of identification cards, including driver's license and social security card.

- Battery operated clock with extra batteries.

- Books, magazines, cards, games, pencils and paper.

- List of contact and emergency phone numbers.

- Full tank of gas in the vehicle.

- Propane or charcoal grill. Remember to keep a full tank of propane and plenty of charcoal stored in a waterproof container.

- Extra set of keys to vehicles, house, business and storage buildings.
