Just before the storm
As the storm approaches, stay tuned to local media sources and weather broadcast stations. When the weather service predicts a storm is headed toward the county, begin final preparations. The county's emergency management office will issue any evacuation orders and other recommended actions as they become necessary.

- All outside items, lawn furniture, plants, decorative items, bikes, toys, tools, should be secured or brought inside. Aluminum pool furniture can be sunk in the pool, if necessary.

- Turn off electricity to the pool and add extra chlorine.

- Install window shutters, if not already in place.

- Reinforce doors with 2x4s, wedge sliding glass doors with a bar.

- Remove pictures and other decorative items from the walls.

- Close blinds and drapes.

- Fill bathtub, sinks and kitchen pots with water.

- Fill ice chests with ice.

- Bring pets inside or take them away, if evacuating.

- Check on neighbors who might need help.
