The Clearwater Police Chief, Tony Holloway, was recently presented with the Humanitarian Award from Clearwater For Youth. The organization held its 41st annual Celebrity Banquet on Feb. 22 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort on Clearwater Beach and recognized the chief for his outstanding support of the youth of the community.
CFY is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing sports program grants and scholarships benefitting the youth of the community. It is in its 44th year, and this is the organization’s original fundraising event.
Other awards given out were the following:
• Champion for Youth Award – Michele Smith, two-time Olympic gold medalist in women’s softball. She has also been an ESPN analyst.
• Outstanding Achievement in Sports Award – Dewayne Staats, a Tampa Bay Rays sportscaster and the 2013 Florida Sportscaster of the Year recipient.
Additionally, the organization presented $30,000 in college scholarships to 10 deserving Pinellas County High School seniors.
CPD fares well at state fair
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Police Department congratulates Debbie Storey, of the department, who fared well at the Hillsborough County Mounted Police Training and Critique at the Florida State Fair. She won first place in western dressage, first place in night obstacles, fourth place in team formation, and fifth place in fleeing felon. She also received the Overall High Point Award along with a trophy.
There were a total of 65 riders from all across Florida who participated in the event, which was sponsored by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
