SAFETY HARBOR – Award-winning author and journalist Jeff Klinkenberg will discuss “Son of Real Florida: Stories from My Life,” his latest book, Thursday, June 7, 6:30 p.m., at the Safety Harbor Public Library, 101 Second St. N., Safety Harbor.

In the book, Klinkenberg shares experiences growing up in pre-air conditioned Florida with stout-hearted folks who learned to live and prosper among the insects, sharp-toothed creatures, and serious heat. Klinkenberg portrays the unique people, places, food, and culture of Florida with his deep knowledge of and love for the state. Some of the chapters are about the author’s childhood in Miami.

Klinkenberg is the former Real Florida columnist at Tampa Bay Times and has authored several books including “Alligators in B-Flat.” He was named one of three 2018 winners of the Florida Folk Heritage Awards and received the Florida Humanities Council’s 2018 Florida Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing.
