Coffee with the mayor

LARGO — Join Mayor Woody Brown for coffee and discussion the first Monday of each month from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Venus Restaurant Largo, 2441 W. Bay Drive.

Vacation Bible School

LARGO — Vacation Bible School will be presented June 3-7 at Christ the King Lutheran Ministries, 11220 Oakhurst Road, Largo.

The program is for children ages 3 to fifth grade and is titled “God of Wonders.” Classes will run 9 a.m. to noon. The VBS is free. To register, visit www.ctklm.org or call 727-595-2117 for information.

Kids Camp ‘block party’

LARGO — Crossroads Christian Church will host a free Kids Camp Block Party on Wednesday, June 19, through Friday, June 21, at the church, 1645 Seminole Blvd., from 6-8:30 p.m. each evening.

The event is fun-filled and LEGO-themed. Kids will make crafts, have a snack, play on inflatables, hear about Jesus, sing, dance and play games.

The Block Party is planned for children ages 4 years through fifth grade.

Largo Central Park

Memorial Day ceremony

LARGO — The city of Largo will honor those who have lost their lives while fighting for our country during a Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 27, 7 p.m., in Largo Central Park's Military Court of Honor, 101 Central Park Drive.

This evening will include a color guard presentation, music, a wreath presentation in remembrance of fallen soldiers and keynote speaker The Rev. Robert “Bob” Swick.

Swick served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was active duty for over four years and earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He is the chairman and CEO of the Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance and he serves locally as a missionary to veterans throughout Tampa Bay.

The event, which is sponsored by Serenity Gardens and was organized by Largo’s Memorial Day Planning Committee, is free and open to the public.

Poolside Picnic

LARGO — The Highland Family Aquatic Center will host a poolside picnic event Monday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bring the family and a blanket to enjoy your own picnic basket by the pool during this special holiday session. Alcohol and glass are not permitted in the facility. Splash's Snack Bar will be open.

Largo Palooza Music Series

LARGO — The Largo Palooza Music Series will continue with a performance by Crooners and Beyond featuring Danny Continanza on Friday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the Community Center.

Activities, which include food trucks, cash bar and after party, begins at 5 p.m.

Continanza will perform the music of Frank Sinatra, Englebert Humperdink, Tom Jones and more.

The cost is $15.

Upcoming performances include Sock Hop Soda Shop featuring Craig Singleton on May 31.

McGough Nature Park

Birds of prey show

LARGO — The Look Alive Bird Show will be each Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Narrows Environmental Education Center.

Attendees will get a glimpse at the world of Florida’s flighted hunters. The show details the adaptations that raptors use to exploit the natural world for their gain. The show includes owls, hawks, falcons and Sarge, the center’s own bald eagle and the star of the show.

The show is free.
