LARGO — Commissioners voted 7-0 on May 21 to approve the appointment of Margaret “Maggie” Paluch as the city’s next assistant city manager.
Paluch was the unanimous selection after a nationwide search that yielded more than 100 applicants and an interview process that included the city’s Executive Leadership Team, which is comprised of department directors.
The position has been vacant since Jan. 11, when longtime city employee Michael Staffopoulos resigned in order to take the city manager post in Jacksonville Beach.
Paluch received her Master of Public Administration degree from Suffolk University in Boston and was most recently the city manager for Alamogordo, New Mexico, which has 375 employees, an annual budget of $85 million and a population of 31,200.
She served as city manager for three years and has 15 years of local government experience.
According to City Manager Henry Schubert, Paluch is the right fit because of her demonstrated commitment to promoting the city’s mission, vision and values and support initiatives aimed at achieving strategic goals.
She is expected to start with the city June 26.
