Clearwater woman arrested for leaving scene of fatality crash

Sierra Jean Ethridge

PINELLAS PARK — Police arrested a 26-year-old Clearwater woman about 6:55 p.m. May 13 on one charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Sierra Jean Ethridge was booked into the Pinellas County Jail about 7:55 p.m. Bail was set at $10,000.

Pinellas Park police responded to a crash about 4 a.m. May 12 in the 12300 block of northbound U.S. 19 involving a motorcycle and two vehicles.

Police say Christopher Mathew Babcock, 22, of Clearwater was riding a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle at a high speed north on U.S. 19 just north of Bryan Dairy Road when he lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle.

A passing driver attempted to flag down traffic, but Kellen Keglar, 20, of Seminole, who was driving a 2011 Ford Mustang GT, struck Babcock, police said.

Another vehicle, a 2012 Kia Optima driven by Giana Weissman, 49, of Tampa, also drove through the crash scene, hitting debris.

Babcock died at the scene.

Pinellas Park police homicide investigators say they received information that a third vehicle had been involved. Detectives learned that Ethridge also had struck Babcock but had left the scene.
