Clearwater man charged with possession of child porn, lewd and lascivious molestation

Robert Erich Metzner

CLEARWATER — Pinellas Park police arrested a 69-year-old Clearwater man May 16 on 12 charges of possession of child pornography and one charge of lewd and lascivious molestation.

Pinellas Park police say investigators were given an USB drive by an informant that allegedly belonged to Robert Erich Metzner. Investigators got a warrant for the drive and found it contained 160 images of child pornography.

Investigators then got a search warrant for Metzner’s home in the Lakes subdivision in Clearwater. Several electronic devices were seized, which investigators will analyze for additional child pornography.

Police also followed up on a report received in December 2018 about lewd and lascivious molestation. Investigators say an 8-year-old boy reported that Metzner had touched his genitals several times with a washcloth while the boy was in the bathtub.

Police say Metzner’s statements confirmed the boy’s accusations. Metzner cared for the boy for one week as a foster parent.

Metzner was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000 for each child pornography charge. No bail was set for the lewd and lascivious molestation.
