SAFETY HARBOR — A 62-year-old Safety Harbor man died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 6:39 p.m. June 26 at 2100 Philippe Parkway in Safety Harbor.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office completed notification of next of kin June 27 and identified the deceased as Darryl Sailor.

According to deputies with the sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team, witnesses noticed a 2008 Kia Spectra, driven by Sailor, weaving on the roadway while traveling southbound on Philippe Parkway, just north of Avon Drive in Safety Harbor.

Investigators say the Kia made a sudden, sharp left turn into the northbound lane of Philippe Parkway and was struck on the passenger side by a 2001 Toyota Avalon, driven by Brendan Burke, 19, of Clearwater, who was traveling northbound on Philippe Parkway.

The impact forced both vehicles off the road, where the Kia struck a utility pole.

Sailor suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, were he was pronounced dead. Burke suffered non-life threatening injuries and also was transported to a local hospital.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash, deputies said.
