CLEARWATER — A 19-year-old Clearwater man was transported to a local hospital the morning of May 16 with serious injuries after he crashed his car on U.S. 19 at the Seville Boulevard exit.

Clearwater police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to the single-vehicle crash about 4:15 a.m.

Police say the driver of a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 when he lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the divider at the Seville Boulevard exit and then “spun off,” crashing into the concrete median wall separating northbound and southbound lanes.

The 19-year-old suffered serious injuries when he was ejected through the windshield. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Police say his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two female passengers were taken to Morton Plant Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
