CLEARWATER — Clearwater police charged a 29-year-old Safety Harbor woman with DUI manslaughter and two counts of neglect of a child after a fatality crash that occurred about 5 p.m. June 1 at Ft. Harrison Avenue and Belleview Boulevard.

Police say Kelley Nicole Zielinski was driving a 2013 Hyundai Accent southbound on Ft. Harrison Avenue approaching Belleview Boulevard. Jeffrey A. Pearl, 56, of Largo was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson traveling northbound on Ft. Harrison Avenue.

Zielinski made a left turn directly in front of the motorcycle, causing a crash, police say. Pearl was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital about 10 p.m.

Police say Zielinski showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested on scene for DUI manslaughter.

Zielinski also had two children in her car. One was hers, and the other belonged to her passenger, which is why she was charged with two counts child neglect. Police say a grandparent picked up Zielinski’s child and the other went home with the parent. No one in Zielinski’s car was injured.

Zielinski was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Bail was set at $20,000. She was released on surety bond about 8:10 p.m. June 2.

Police arrested one additional person at the scene, Stacey Lynne Maurer, 52 of Clearwater. Zielinski and Maurer were reportedly involved in a road rage incident shortly before Zielinski crashed into Pearl’s motorcycle. Police say Maurer followed Zielinski to the scene of the fatal crash and then slapped her.

Maurer was charged with two counts of simple battery and one charge of driving under the influence. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Bail was set at $1,500. She was released on surety bond about 3:26 p.m. June 2.
