Indian Rocks man charged with DUI manslaughter, teen bicyclist killed

Neil Singhal

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH — Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 69-year-old Indian Rocks Beach man June 28 in connection with a fatality crash that occurred about 10:33 p.m. on the Indian Rocks Beach Causeway.

Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team say Neil Singhal was driving his 2014 BMW 320i westbound on the Indian Rocks Causeway Bridge, approaching East Gulf Boulevard in Indian Rocks Beach.

Sophia Delott, 17, of Largo was riding her bicycle eastbound, on the westbound side of the bridge, in a designated bicycle lane. Delott's bicycle did have front and rear lights.

Witnesses say Singhal's vehicle veered into the bicycle lane and struck Delott, ejecting her from the bicycle.

Delott suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was later died.

Singhal was uninjured.

Investigators say impairment was a factor in the crash. Singhal was arrested for DUI manslaughter about 1:47 a.m. and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Bail was set at $20,000.
