Clearwater transient arrested after attempted escape

MADERIA BEACH – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 32-year-old transient from Clearwater June 6 on charges of escape, trespass after warning, drug possession and burglary in Madeira Beach.

Deputies responded to a trespass call at the Schooner Motel, 14500 Gulf Blvd. in Madeira Beach, about 2:18 a.m. When they arrived, they placed Robert Henry White III into custody for trespass after warning and possession of crack cocaine.

During a prisoner transfer at 14995 Gulf Boulevard, White’s handcuffs were repositioned to the front of his body. He then escaped custody and fled on foot while still wearing handcuffs. He was last seen running southbound, toward the beach.

Deputies responded to the area again about 9:03 a.m., June 6 and took White into custody again in front of 14201 Bayshore Boulevard. Deputies say he was still handcuffed.

He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Bail was set at $22,300.
