SEMINOLE — Registration is open for the 26th annual Seminole Stampede 5K Race and 1-mile Fun Run, set for Saturday, March 23, at Walsingham Park, 12620 102nd Ave. Participants must arrive before 7:30 a.m.
This event is presented by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce.
The 5K race, open to runners, race walkers and power walkers, will begin at 8 a.m. on March 23 with the 1-mile Fun Run directly following that. The race is held on a certified course that will be professionally timed.
This event is open to all ages and even those who are not competitive runners or walkers are encouraged to come out.
Sandy Hartmann, event chair, said, “This is just a good chance for people to get out — to get up, get out and go do something.”
This year the chamber will also introduce the Doggy Stampede, a first-time 1K walk for dogs and their owners, she said.
“It’s going to be adorable,” she said. “It’s going to be a blast. They have such a big dog park there, and when you say, ‘Doggy Stampede,’ you can’t help but smile.”
To ensure the Doggy Stampede doesn’t interfere with the 5K races or 1k Fun Run, the dogs will start walking around 8:15 a.m., Hartmann added.
Also new this year are cash prizes totaling $1,500 that will be presented to winners of the 5K race.
“That is a big deal,” Hartmann said, adding that most events like this don’t offer cash prizes. “Usually you just get a mug or a $5 trophy. So, it’s nice to have something like this.”
Cost to enter the 5K race is $25 per person through March 18 and $30 after that date.
Cost to enter the 1-mile Fun Run or Doggy Stampede is $10 per person through March 18 and $15 after that date.
A discount of $5 per person is available for groups of 10 or more if registered by March 18.
Make checks to: Seminole Chamber of Commerce, 7777 131st St. N., Ste. 1, Seminole, FL 33776.
The chamber is also seeking volunteers to assist the day of the race as well as sponsors to defray event expenses.
