“May you soar on eagle wings …”
A bald eagle that was found severely injured in early December was back in the sky last week as staffers and supporters of the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary set the majestic creature free. Seminole resident Richard Rushing and his wife, Alisa, found the bird in their naturally-kept yard on 74th Avenue on Dec. 10. They summoned the sanctuary, which took in the patient and treated wounds and an eye infection most likely sustained in a fight.

Melissa Edwards, avian hospital director at the sanctuary, watches the eagle take flight in Boca Ciega Millennium Park on Jan. 22. The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Indian Shores dedicated to rescuing, treating and rehabilitating sick and injured wild birds. It receives no government funding and relies on donor support.
